So We March On

One reality of life is that none of us really knows where the next foot is going to land. By that I mean that we really don’t know what will happen next. Life is an adventure that way. Hurdles come and we have a choice of trying to go around them…

…or taking a leap of faith.
But we know that we have to keep going, so we march on. Unfortunately, some people have a much rougher journey than others, even from the very beginning.

Baby Avie at two days of life.

According to the March of Dimes website one out of every eight babies is born prematurely.

And unfortunately, many of those don't survive.

But life doesn’t wait for us…

…so we march on.
In 2010 INOVA Fairfax Hospital’s NICU admitted 1,295 babies, and that was just ONE hospital. On top of that, there were other babies that did not even make it to the NICU.  As hard as these numbers are to swallow, they are true.  And despite the pain, life goes on. So we march on.
The link at the bottom of this page is to a video made by some of the nurses from the Fairfax NICU. They made this video to help raise money for their team in the March for Babies event that will be held on May 15, 2011 at Reston Town Center. Robin and I will actually be part of Team Tiny Warriors 2010 and we have each pledged to raise $500. This is a large goal, I know. But when this tragedy struck our family I said that if I could wave a magic wand and ensure that no one else would ever have to live the hell that I had lived, I would do so in a heartbeat. So we will march. Many of you reading this have already given generously to help us raise over $3,000 that was donated to the March of Dimes and will be put to use to provide more comfort for families whose children are admitted to the NICU. We are thankful. If you’ve felt touched by our story and feel you can help us reach our goal for the March for Babies, please visit where you can do a search for our names in Team Tiny Warriors 2010. Thank you.

Sorry I haven’t commented in a while, I have had so much on my plate lately.

The pictures of Avery make me smile and she is a delight and a blessing and ever so cute. Thank you for keeping us updated and you all remain in my daily prayers.

The demands of an infant, let alone a preemie, are all consuming but please try and take time where possible for yourselves and each other. You are an amazing and inspirational family. Never forget that.

    God Bless.

I haven’t read your entire blog yet, but will soon, and look forward to following your journey. I’m now a NICU mom at IFH. Lauren W also pointed me to your blog. I now have 35 week twins (born at 27 weeks). They were born at 2lb 1oz, and 12oz. They’re now 4lb 8oz and 2lb 6oz.
